Allen Odvody Filled a Gap in the Market–And in His Life–Through His Fibrenew Business
We had a chat with Allen Odvody–owner/operator at Fibrenew San Juan–to talk about his past experiences, what inspired his jump into franchise ownership, and what keeps him motivated. Read on!
After a decade and a half in the furniture rental industry, the novelty had begun to wear off for Allen Odvody. He had built a very successful career–working up to a Director of Operations role–where he had positioned himself as the go-to man for building and improving regional areas and stores.
But an impressive title, professional accolades, and comfortable living aren’t always enough to satisfy–and Allen dreamt of something more.
In 2020, he landed in Puerto Rico and knew almost instantly it was where he wanted to stay long-term. But Allen just couldn’t shake the feeling of being trapped in the same corporate environment. “After bouncing around the States for the last 8 years, I ended up in Puerto Rico. I loved the new environment, but I couldn’t stop feeling like I needed a major change,” Allen said.
He needed something that would reignite his soul with mission and purpose.
Then, one day, perhaps in a cosmically predetermined act of fate; Allen received an email. And the journey began.
“After bouncing around the States for the last 8 years, I ended up in Puerto Rico. I loved the new environment, but I couldn’t stop feeling like I needed a major change.”
The email was from a franchise recruiter. Being uncharted territory for Allen, he wasn’t completely familiar with how the franchise model works.
He did, however, recall many people throughout his life questioning him on why he had never tried starting his own business. The reason–Allen had always convinced himself–was that he didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do.
What kind of business would he start? What direction would he take?
Suddenly, the concept of a franchise started to seem like a realistic path, and a lot more refreshing and exciting than where he was. It would mean business ownership and the freedom to implement his own ideas and dive in completely, with the added support and brand recognition to remove some of the risk and complexity.
Allen worked with his consultant to narrow down his options for what franchise would suit him best. “I was presented with several franchise options. The sustainability angle and flexibility were high on my list of what I wanted out of my own business, so Fibrenew was a natural match.”

The rest is history.
After completing Fibrenew’s 2-week training program, Allen and his ongoing Assistant Operations Manager hit the ground running.
They’ve filled a gap in the market in their local Puerto Rico area; there was no service like this in existence before Allen officially launched his Fibrenew business. Because of that, the variety and volume of work have been more than enough to fill his time as he continues to master his craft–and the satisfaction of customers continues to keep him motivated.
