These Boots Were Made For Riding (Competively)

Fibrenew Upstate was recently asked to take expensive, brand new, right out of the box, alligator leather riding boots and custom dye them to an aqua color.  Now we don’t have anything against aqua, in fact it was a beautiful shade.  That being said, this was one of those times where we had to remind ourselves that ‘the customer is always right’!  What we came to understand is that there are horse riding competitions with very specific outfit guideline requirements.    So, a lady donning a fancy, custom made riding outfit may be in need of custom dyed leather riding boots to match.  And we can do that!  Better yet for Fibrenew Upstate, if she continues to compete, she will continue to need more custom dyed leather boots – say, silver, for example.  You got it, we were called on to dye yet another pair of brand new, alligator leather boots to match a silver outfit.  And once again, the customer is always right!

What’s Old is New Again, literally!

Vintage Aigner Handbag

My Mom recently pulled out an Etienne Aigner leather handbag that my Dad had given her for Christmas in the mid-70′s.   And while she hadn’t carried it in many years, she just couldn’t bring herself to get rid of it due to the nostalgic, sentimental value.  The leather was still in great shape, just a little tired and worn around the shoulder strap and opening.   The most crucial aspect here was getting the color exact, so as to duplicate the original ‘signature’ Aigner burgundy red.  Should you love but not have a vintage bag in your closet or your Mom’s, check out www.vintage-instyle.com.   Their selection of vogue vintage purses is endless.  And should you come across one that suits your fancy but’s just a little tired, remember Fibrenew can make what’s old, new again.   Afterall, ‘new’ is a big part of our name!

Who Else Wants to Hold On to that Nostalgic Leather Jacket?

This 10+ year old Biker Jacket arrived with lots of white stenciling, reminiscent of the owner’s previous ‘rocker’ life style.   Great for remembering, but not for wearing.    The jacket still fit perfectly and the style was somewhat ageless.  The leather, still in great shape, (other than the stenciling) was just a bit faded and worn.  So, the owner decided, for a fraction of the cost of a new leather jacket, he would have this piece of memorabilia re-dyed and brought back to life, though a bit more sedate life.

Yes, we can re-dye leather jackets!

The month of November seems to be a ‘turning’ point, of sorts.  The leaves turn colors and then quickly turn loose, we turn the clocks back and then turn the heat on.   And as the season progresses, we turn, or rotate, the clothing in our closets.  How many of us start organizing the pile that’s to be discarded or donated, only to pull our favorites back out of the stack later?  Yes, it’s hard to turn down the chance to wear those special and many times irreplaceable and / or expensive garments.

I met a businessman recently that asked if we, at Fibrenew Upstate, could re-dye his black leather jacket.  It seems his wife had told him just the day before that he really needed to get rid of it.   And while he agreed with her that the leather jacket was a bit tired and faded and probably didn’t make a very good impression, he loved this jacket that still fit perfectly.   Yes, I told him, we can re-dye leather jackets! Now, since this jacket was actually kid-glove leather - some of the softest wearable leather around -  I warned him that some of the suppleness may be reduced by the dyeing process.   Luckily, there was only the slightest change to the leather feel which will diminish with wear.  I’m happy to say, we saved him time, as well as aggravation and money, by his not having to shop for a new leather jacket – especially when the one he had was the one he wanted.

So, during this seasonal change that is upon us, we hope you’ll remember that Fibrenew Upstate can turn back the hands of time! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
